By making us his Charity of the Year, Councillor Barrie Hargrove, the Mayor of Southwark, has given us amazing personal support throughout his term of office. He has collected in the rain at July's Peckham Rye Gala; cheered on the 8 SDCAS runners he entered for us in the October London Marathon; featured our work during the Southwark Cathedral online Christmas Carol Concert; and waltzed with the Mayoress at our recent Copleston concert.
So far this personal commitment has raised over £20,000 for us. And he still has one more very special event that he wants us to benefit from. This is the Mayor's Ball, the traditional way of celebrating the mayor's period of office, which is taking place on Saturday 2 April at the Globe Theatre.
It would be great if people could donate gifts that could be raffled or auctioned at the event. The Mayor wants the proceeds from both the raffle and the auction to come to us, and so raise at least another £5,000.
The raffle prizes will typically be worth £20 or more. The auction will aim to sell items to what we hope will be a generous audience for at least £100. In both cases the donation could be a 'thing', a service, or a special experience. If you have something you feel would fit the bill, could you please email details to Canan at the office: ARPS@SDCAS.org.uk ; or phone her on 0207 732 0505.
There is also an opportunity to go to the Ball itself, which starts with a drinks reception, followed by dinner and dancing. And of course, as well as the auction, there will be a short speech about our work and a chance to thank the Mayor. It will be a pretty special occasion. If you are interested in tickets, which will sell for £100, please also contact Canan at the office.
